Less VAT on energy efficient windows petition

Double glazing has long been treated as a home improvement even an optional luxury, the VAT has been charged at 17.5%, but this could be changed .Energy Efficient products however get special treatment, they're not considered luxury optional products, becoming the best standard of homes, and their use encouraged by The Energy Savings Trust.

These products are further encouraged by the government through "VAT free" or VAT at just 5% , but unfortunately the government does not apply zero or low VAT on energy efficient windows

Maybe you'd help us to help you, by registering your name with the petition (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/reduced-VAT/)

Its never been more important to encourage good energy efficient products, especially those which harmonise with the buildings into which they are being installed. Yet the chancellor has been unwilling to reduce VAT on the most energy efficient window, consequently we're all paying too much VAT, so its hardly surprising the take up is minimal.

Surely if the government REALLY wants to encourage the use of energy efficient products, then the same VAT rules should apply.

C rated, Bygone sash windows are proven to save 74% of the heat lost through a conventional single glazed timber window, more amazingly, our A rated sash window (the only A rated sash window on the market) actually saves ALL of the heat lost through a single glazed timber sash window  - a truly zero energy loss window!

Being carbon neutral, (even energy positive) is a massive step forward. Its cost thousands in development costs and has more components so does cost more to manufacture, what's wrong is the VAT is being charged at the same rate.

But you can help change that. You see there is a petition to request the government changes the VAT but you need to act now, the deadline is October 20th.
