Secured by Design
The Secured by Design logo will prove the police have ensured the security complies with their performance criteria
The Secured by Design programme is endorsed and supported by The Association of Chief Police Officers for England Wales and Northern Ireland (ACPO) and the Association of Chief Police Officers for Scotland (ACPOS) representing the police forces of the United Kingdom.
ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives Limited was established in 1999 to manage Secured by Design and similar crime prevention initiatives at a national level. It is entirely owned by ACPO with chief police officers on the Board of Directors.
This means that your windows have been independently tested and deemed secure for the period required.
Until December 2005, NO British Standard existed for the security of sash windows. There was nothing to test against, so companies have got away with fitting inferior products, those like masterframe could not claim their product was better or more secure until the standard was agreed and set by the governing bodies... until now that is.
Our Bygone Collection of sash windows passed the new British Standard 7950 (for sash window security) on Friday 21st April this year and as of 17th May 2006, The Bygone Collection have achieve the Secured by Design endorsement.
"Bygone Collection Sash Windows are Secured by Design as standard"
SBD in itself means a company CAN make secure products, but you need one that also has ISO9001:2000 certification and BBA or BS7412 Kitemark too. ISO ensures the same consistency of quality, AND you should state secured by design on any order because some companies will say they have it on their literature but not quote for it. BBA regularly audit our products to ensure standards are always met.
SDB is funded through partnership with companies whose products meet technical standards identified by ACPO CPI. In return, a licensed company is able to utilise the Secured by Design logo and, on those products, which meet the technical standard, the title "Police Preferred Specification" in accordance with the terms of our licence agreement.
Beware
Many companies will claim, sometimes deliberately and sometimes in sheer ignorance, that their sash windows achieve BS7950 or that they have Secured by Design Accreditation when they do not. Sometimes this is because their standard casements meet the criteria, but sash windows find it harder to meet the security standards and not all companies have been able to pass the necessary challenges. Always check any claims made (including ours) on the Secured by Design website making sure to select vertical sliding windows.
