The Bygone Collection sliding sashes have convinced another conservation officer! When planners for the Charlottesville conservation area heard homeowner Mrs Barber had replaced her original rotten timber sashes with new PVC-U ones, they told her she had to remove them. But once the Head of Planning and Development at Guildford Borough Council actually saw the sliding sashes, she declared they looked authentic enough to remain.
The Bygone Preferred Installer P&P Glass installed one bay and six sliding sashes in the 19th century property, with a total project value of £13,500. Managing Director Tom Scanlon helped Mrs Barber complete her application and persuade the planner to see the windows: “All the windows were Secured by Design and Energy Saving Recommended, with a ‘C’ energy rating. They’re perfect for period properties, and actually add to the value of the home – it’s a huge and profitable market.”
Mrs Barber adds: “The timber originals were rotten and badly needed replacing. We looked into timber windows but the price was far too high – even without the cost and bother of maintaining them every few years. The Bygone Collection windows meet all our needs: they’re low maintenance, they exclude draughts and are more secure and energy efficient. Better still, they look just like timber.”
