Hastings-based Bygone Preferred Installer Scott James Home Improvements Ltd installed five Masterframe vertical sliders in a Maidstone property in October. Planners had applied an Article 4 Direction, removing the permitted development rights so the homeowner needed planning permission for all work affecting the appearance of the outside of the property. “The timber originals had been replaced about 20 years ago with aluminium widows with fanlights over fixed,” explains Doug Edwards, of Scott James HI, “which were in very poor condition. It’s a semi-detached property, and we used Bygone Collection sashes with a white woodgrain foil finish to exactly match the timber windows on the adjoining house (pictured on the left with the bay window). It made a big difference to the property, restoring its character, and the customer was delighted.”
“So many houses have had inappropriate PVC-U and Aluminium windows fitted,” observes Alan Burgess, Managing Director of PVC-U sliding sash manufacturer Masterframe Windows Ltd. “That’s a huge potential market for installers to target. Offering a high quality, authentic-looking product helps our Bygone Preferred Installers make the most of these opportunities.”
