This article details what customers can expect to receive for their money. Benefits listed include the quality sash windows themselves and the various guarantees provided too.

Here at Bygone Collection we tend to focus upon the superior quality and beautiful aesthetics of sash windows like ours, but it’s worth bearing in mind the various other features on offer too when considering investing in new double glazed sash windows. While increased insulation, premium ventilation and enhanced soundproofing are all valuable features to which homeowners can look forward, the biggest consideration is inevitably price. At Bygone, we’re committed to ensuring that customers receive industry leading value for money throughout the sale process and beyond. Our pricing therefore encompasses unrivalled care, quality and service in the following three areas.

Product

The quality of our sashes has been widely confirmed in customer reviews and the greater media as a whole. If a competitor is offering huge discounts against our pricing, there’s every chance that the products on offer are not even sash windows at all. For their investment, Bygone Collection customers receive an extensive list of accreditations and guarantees on their windows which cannot be matched by any other provider in existence today.

Installation

Few others, if any sash window providers have developed an approved installer scheme like ours. We have carefully selected the best installers from the 12,000 in operation in the UK today, based on a number of strict quality standards involving areas such as workmanship, customer service, track record and pricing. For homeowners this not only makes for a careful and considered installation, but also for peace of mind that your money has been spent wisely.

Aftercare

These fully vetted local installers are accountable to our management, meaning that any rare issues can be rectified properly by us, and the offending installer struck off the program (we’ll no longer authorise them or supply them with Bygone sashes). It’s therefore clear that our sash windows offer excellent value for money overall, as opposed to apparently cheaper alternatives – why not fill out an enquiry form on their website to see your money go further.

Following the success of their previous article, this new article from Bygone Collection offers tips regarding how to keep sash windows clean and well maintained all year round.

In the spirit of last week’s post regarding how to prepare your sash windows for the winter months, here at the Bygone Collection we thought we would give some tips regarding how to keep windows clean and well maintained all year round. Of course the general maintenance required differs according to whether your window is made from PVC-U or timber, but as we supply industry leading products made from both high quality materials, we’re able to offer some hints for each.

Timber

The most important thing to remember where timber sash windows are concerned is that painting is everything. If paint is allowed to deteriorate it leaves the timber beneath exposed to the elements. This in turn increases the likelihood of rot and fungal degradation – the window cill and bottom rail are areas of increased susceptibility.

Those homeowners who invest in Bygone’s well refined sashes can rest assured that their windows are treated with high performance micro-porous water-based paint finishes which comprise a ten year guarantee.

Furthermore, stained finishes are available with five year guarantees in addition to treatment with boron wood preservative; a naturally occurring compound which offers 30 year guaranteed protection against rot and fungal attack.

If you’d rather avoid professional repairs ensure that you repair minor damage to timber with high quality filler, providing the structural integrity of the window remains unaffected.

PVC-U

Bygone PVC-U sashes offer an incredible durability profile that renders maintenance virtually unnecessary. However we would recommend cleaning PVC-U sashes regularly using sensitive cleaning agents.

This helps prevent any standing water or dirt from affecting the window’s metal moving parts. The beauty of a sash windows range like ours here at Bygone is that the entire window can be cleaned form inside the home. Overall, we urge homeowners to take as much pride in their windows as we do and carry out small scale maintenance as and when required.

Now that summer seems to have given in to the cold and rain it’s time to start preparing our homes for the winter months. This article describes how to prepare sash windows.

It may seem like bad form to be writing about winter in August but before we know it the cold will be upon us once again. Thankfully, nature delivers an entire season of warning signs; autumn announces the onset of the cold. As sash windows specialists who have seen their fair share of winters, here at Bygone we’ve listed a few tips to help you prepare your home and windows. First and foremost, when you have a spare moment inspect the interior and exterior of your windows, as usually we tend to look through our windows, rather than at them.

For this reason it can help to take to the street or driveway and view your property from a distance. This way you can notice and repair any damage or deteriorating seals in time to repel the frost. Where the beautiful Bygone Collection is concerned, all of our products are guaranteed for ten years, so rest assured that any rare issues won’t be expensive to remedy.

The winter brings with it a gaggle of complications; thermostats and central heating systems will soon fire back into life after their long break. This means that it’s more important to ensure your home has energy efficient windows like ours to avoid wasting as much as 20% of your heating bill.

It’s not just the cold that causes problems either. With the winter rains on their way it’s tempting to bring clothes indoor to dry, instead of airing them on the washing line. Unfortunately, with modern windows sealing homes as effectively as they do, this can lead to condensation and stuffiness.

Bygone sash windows can incorporate discreet trickle vents which solve this issue and work toward replacing all of the air in a room every twenty minutes. Overall, the key is to look after windows all year round; for useful tips on how please explore our website or get in touch.

This brand new article is a response to the Government’s rejection of a window scrappage scheme in favour of their Green Deal. It comments upon proposed benefits for homeowners.

Here at the Bygone Collection we like to keep appraised of breaking news in our industry, and we always aim to pass developments on to existing and potential customers alike. Back in June of this year we commented upon the supposed governmental window scrappage scheme to assure customers that, although no scheme currently existed, a petition had been delivered to the government requesting the introduction of such an initiative. The new coalition government has recently issued a response to this petition which bodes well for homeowners looking to invest in new double glazed sash windows like ours here at Bygone.

The government’s response was clear; a window scrappage scheme was not cost effective due to the disproportionate cost of grade C windows when compared to the proposed incentive amount, originally set at £1000.

However there’s hope on the horizon; the government pointed signatories to their Green Deal, originally set to come into force later this year. Under new proposals, households (and possibly businesses too) would be awarded up to £6,500 for energy efficient home improvements and would then repay this amount using the money saved on heating and energy bills.

While the initiative is still being developed by the relevant departments, the government has stated that it intends to list double glazing as one of the measures covered by the plan. If this is the case, then homeowners could look forward to having energy efficient sashes like the Bygone range installed using funding from this initiative.

It’s clear that the introduction of this scheme would be greatly beneficial to consumers, but it would stimulate a welcome increase in the competitiveness of the window industry at large. Here at Bygone we welcome any provision that assists homeowners in acquiring high quality windows. We’ve developed our double glazed sash windows range so that each design combines three integral elements; period beauty, matchless quality and industry leading energy efficiency.

This article explores the advice available for buying quality sash windows safely. It aims to give buyers increased confidence when purchasing new windows of all kinds.

Here at the Bygone Collection we’re passionate about sash windows and the wider industry as a whole. Unfortunately, the window and double glazing industry has received some bad press over recent years, with many homeowners complaining of dishonest company procedures. With this in mind it’s well worth seeking advice regarding how to go about purchasing new windows safely, and a recent article from the well known Which? website (available here) provides some sensible tips for potential buyers. The write up affords useful advice, some of which echoes a number of our own recommendations.

The article focuses on obtaining reasonable and trustworthy quotations, and suggests that buyers source at least three before making a decision. Whilst this makes excellent sense, it’s worth taking care to consider the cheapest quote carefully, as this may not be the best choice.

If prices seem too good to be true then they probably are, and contractors will be looking to recoup costs in some other way during the course of the sale and/or installation. As well as shopping around like this article suggests, the key to acquiring the best deal lies in cross referencing cost with quality. If the two are proportional then consumers can rest assured that they’re receiving everything for which they are paying.

The Which? article goes on to praise the value of word of mouth recommendations, and points consumers to the Double Glazing & Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme (DGCOS) and the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF). As stated previously, as longstanding GGF members the Bygone team fully support this advice.

Finally the article dismisses any scrappage schemes as simply special offers run by different companies, and concludes by reminding buyers that they may have seven days to cancel any contract signed, depending upon where signing took place. As experts in sash windows, the Bygone Collection team urges customers to follow advice like this to ensure safe buying and product satisfaction.

This latest news post from Bygone Windows discusses how sash windows within the public sector can make a difference to a variety of properties.

There’s a definite sense of excitement in the media now that we’re within two short years of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Of course, there’s still plenty to do, but the government, businesses and the population at large seem to be looking forward to showcasing the rich culture and heritage that the UK has to offer. Here at Bygone, we’re dedicated to preserving traditional British heritage through our authentically designed sash windows. It’s nice to hear then that Derwent Sash Windows, the best selling Bygone approved installer in the country, has this month been tasked with an exciting new project.

The well established firm has been awarded a prestigious contract to replace 52 windows at Rotherham town hall with high quality Bygone sashes. We’re delighted to be able to provide these windows, which are the only kind that Derwent Sash Windows install. In addition to the Bygone NVQ level 2 training, Derwent sash windows have vast experience in cabinet making and carpentry, making their skills ideally suited to such a project.

Countless town centres across the United Kingdom display traditional architecture, and it’s good to see that local authorities are choosing the Bygone Collection in order to fulfil their duty of preserving such grand and impressive traditional buildings.

Rotherham Town Hall itself was built in 1929, meaning that our Victorian style sash windows will compliment its period magnificence effortlessly. Furthermore, the hall currently serves as a venue for numerous civil ceremonies and everyday activities, as well as being a popular setting for weddings. This makes it even more of a relief that our windows have been chosen, as weddings can henceforth be enjoyed and recorded with the grand backdrop they deserve.

It’s always nice to see evidence of hard work being rewarded, and with the country set to feature increasingly on the international stage in the coming years, there’s never been a better time for homeowners and the public sector alike to turn to genuine sash windows which so beautifully epitomise 400 years of British culture and architecture.

With the current high temperatures and humid atmosphere in the UK set to continue, this article explains how using sash windows correctly can aid ventilation and homeowner comfort.

With the hot sun now fully beaming down upon us, many will be turning to every method they can find to ensure they remain cool and comfortable throughout the summer period. Naturally, windows are the most effective method in ensuring a house is kept well ventilated, but few provide the high efficiency and aestheticism which sash windows from Bygone offer. Through combining authentic charm with classic design, our windows provide a simple and successful means to a fresh and airy household, without having to make great efforts at strategically positioning fans, all to no avail, or little real benefit.

With the Met Office issuing a heat-health warning over the rising summer temperatures, now is as better time than any to re-invent your property by investing in period-enhancing sash windows. We manufacture nothing but the finest windows in the business, and maintain our excellence throughout all areas of our service, never faulting on any aspect of our superb collection. Your decision to purchase windows from us will also be commended with a premium fitting service from our hand-picked Bygone preferred installers.

The BBC have also recently recognised the importance of sash windows in creating effective ventilation throughout the home, advising people to reap the full benefits of such advantageous features, by leaving them open in the correct manner to maximise air flow.

Through ensuring equal gaps are created at the top and bottom of the windows, fresh air will be able to freely circulate throughout the property, keeping all within cool and contented, despite the blazing heat. Here at Bygone, we’re confident that the sash window style offers the best ventilation due to the independent testing that proves this is the case.

Such benefits of sash windows are extremely valuable towards creating the optimum living space, as they also provide excellent insulation in the winter, thanks to their double glazing. Whatever the time, season or weather, our sash windows prove to be both a practical and desirable choice for intelligent homeowners everywhere.

Finding the right installer is now even easier with Bygone Collection. They discuss how they provide information regarding reliable installers of their windows in your area.

Here at the Bygone Collection we’ve spent over a decade refining and developing our market leading sash windows in order to create a product which represents a harmonious collusion of style, efficiency, security and practicality. However, we’ve also put considerable effort into ensuring that customers are provided with watertight guarantees regarding the quality of window installation delivered, not just the product itself. For this reason we developed a network of Bygone Preferred Installers which comprises a group of specially selected companies who alone posses authorisation to sell and install our windows in homes across the country.

These firms are vetted and regulated local contractors who meet our standards for consistent delivery of excellence. Upon application for authorisation each and every installer must attend a Bygone run theory assessment day. During this procedure they’ll be expected to provide proof of superior installation processes and moreover, consistency in these practices.

Furthermore, each installer we approve must demonstrate the acquisition of an NVQ Level 2 in Fenestration. Where homeowners are concerned, all this makes for installations which are brisk, comprehensive and carried out by individuals who are respectful and who showcase a high level of industry expertise.

However at the Bygone Collection we understand that things won’t always go to plan. Therefore if you’re dissatisfied with a Bygone approved installation then we guarantee to help rectify the problem at no extra cost. Each product we supply comes with a guarantee ranging from 12 months to a decade too, and our installers must always provide homeowners with paperwork certifying compliance with existing governmental regulations upon completion.

Here at Bygone, we don’t like seeing our carefully crafted sashes let down by subpar installations; it’s not what we created them for and not what homeowners deserve. So bear this in mind as you browse the information regarding our selection of truly exceptional timber and uPVC sash windows, and get in touch for further details.

This latest news post from Bygone Collection discusses how they provide FSC approved timber sash windows which ensures the wood they use has no environmental affect.

Last week the EU parliament voted in favour of a ban on illegally sourced timber entering European Union member states. The legislation, set to come into effect toward the end of 2012, forces importers to provide proof that their timber has come from legal and sustainable sources, and promises to offer consumers additional guarantees regarding a range of products – including timber sash windows. Here at the Bygone Collection, we’re committed to walking the tightrope between the quality of timber used and the integrity of its origins, which is why we only use FSC Chain of Custody approved timber.

While it’s estimated that roughly 20% of the timber that enters the EU is illegal, homeowners can rest assured that the striking beauty of our wooden sash windows doesn’t come at a terrible environmental price. The Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) has been regulating the standards of logging companies for over 17 years, and only awards accreditation to annually reviewed legal sources which meet their exacting benchmark.

This means that logging processes and operations are directly affected in source countries, as companies strive to reach the required standards of practice. Back in the UK, this means that here at Bygone we’re already looking forward to the new EU regulations coming into effect.

Our customers can enjoy their stunning sashes safe in the knowledge that they’re composed of selectively chosen timber which is amongst only 5% of the world’s supply to have come from sustainably managed tropical forests (according to the International Timber Organisation).

In fact, the Chain of Custody procedure already followed by FSC registered suppliers is very similar to the paper trail documentation that it will become compulsory for importers to provide, under this new legislation. This means that both new and existing owners of Bygone’s inspired timber sash windows can relax safe in the knowledge that they’ve contributed toward the continued sustainability of some of the world’s most beautiful forests.

In most industries it’s true that customers buy with their eyes. An aesthetically pleasing product which is well presented will invariably generate more sales than a less visually appealing counterpart. Indeed, it only takes one look at the Bygone Collection’s beautiful uPVC sash windows with their fine white painted timber effect finish to recognise superior craftsmanship and timeless elegance. Here at Bygone, we’re proud of how closely our uPVC sashes resemble seasoned timber, but we don’t want this to come at the expense of the environment. Thankfully, we can ensure customers that our uPVC is surprisingly environmentally friendly.

Over the years uPVC has been criticised as being harmful to the environment, and it’s true that thousands of tonnes of this variety of plastic has ended up in landfill sites across the country in the past. Here at Bygone, we can see the irony of providing homes with incredibly energy efficient windows which complement rural aesthetics, whilst simultaneously polluting the ground with plastic waste which doesn’t degrade.

That’s why we have recycled our waste for a number of years now, with an initiative dating back to long before the current trend toward eco-friendly processes. But regardless, we feel that uPVC’s tarnished reputation is undeserved on more than one account.

For the most part, uPVC consists of natural salts; harmless minerals which are broken down easily if required. Furthermore, at Bygone we use calcium organic stabilisers instead of lead in our uPVC profile, which helps eliminate the risk posed to people and the environment.

If responsibly recycled and comprising a profile like ours, uPVC sash windows can offer a level of durability that even hardwood timber cannot match. In fact, the Building Research Establishment, a body originally commissioned by the government, lists uPVC windows as ‘A’ Rated and gives an estimated lifespan of over 35 years.
