If you have (or had) sash windows, then without doubt the right solution should be more sash windows, but try to establish if the original windows were fitted behind the brick reveals. If so, you'll want them fitted behind the brick work too.
The original sash windows would almost certainly have had putty glazing, which was knifed clean at an angle of 45 degrees. For this reason all Bygone windows have chamfered sashes that are angled to match the 'putty-line' appearance.
