Add indoor plants to improve air quality

Did you know that houseplants can reduce indoor air pollution?

If placed in the right place they detoxify the air in specific living spaces.  The Nasa Clean Air Study revealed that there are a number of plants that can absorb germs as well as the harmful toxins found in many household products.

Some of the best performing plants to name but a few are: -

The Barberton Daisy, not only as pretty as a picture but also a cleanser of formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene contained in a range of household materials.

English Ivy – removes toilet and bathroom nasties and reduces mould levels.

Snake plant or Mother-in-Laws Tongue releases oxygen at night improving your breathing while sleeping and effectively removing formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, toluene and trichloroethylene.

Cheerful, colourful Chrysanthemum filters out toxins such as ammonia and benzene occurring in plastics, detergents and glue.

Non-toxic to animals, the Spider plant it will combat toxins such as carbon monoxide and xylene used in the printing and rubber industry.

Areca Palm not only removes toxins from the air but also emits large amounts of water vapour, very helpful when the air is particularly dry.

Useful for soothing burns, an Aloe Vera plant will purify the air of formaldehyde, benzene and in detergents, varnishes and floor finishes.

Houseplants are great filters and if you already have sash windows, then you are lucky to be experiencing the most efficient purge ventilation possible.  The fresh air that sash windows draw into your rooms also combats the build-up of toxins, and cleaner fresher air is heathier all round, improving breathing and encouraging better sleep.  If you are considering new energy efficient, health promoting sash windows that are also low maintenance, then read about all your choices here.
